No matter what generation you’re from, if sounds of The Ramones, The Cramps, The Misfits, Beastie Boys, or Bad Brains (to name a few) have ever graced your speakers, then you’re most likely familiar with the name CBGB. In 2006, the doors of the legendary punk club and birthplace of the American punk movement officially closed, and for 6 years, the name continued only on re-printed Ramones posters and the tshirts of young punks, becoming little more than a reminder of an awesome scene that was known by many but experienced by few.
Well, there’s no excuses now. This year, the scene will be resurrected in the first annual CBGB Festival. The music portion is set for July 5-6th with over 300 acts, old and new, hitting venues all across New York City. A few acts on the lineup have been officially announced, including a free show on July 7th with Guided By Voices and Cloud Nothings.
In the calming words of The Ramones, hey, ho … let’s go.
Check out more info on the official CBGB site.
Braaaaaaains. Bad Brains. Just a tad bit of reggae-infused punk rock to get you up and moving this Monday. For any folks off in the Ohio region, the guys will be heading your way in just a few weeks for the Nelsonville Music Festival on Friday 5/18. Or, hey, you can always roadtrip it to Tennessee for Bonnaroo in June. Your choice.
Darryl Jenifer’s solo debut album, In Search of Black Judas, has been out and about on the market for a little while. We’re not sure if he ever found that Black Judas, but you can snag your own copy of the record right here.

There’s a film floating around somewhere on the horizon about the history of Bad Brains. The punk-reggae outfit have been together for 30 years now, so you know there’s some stories to be told. Bad Brains: Bands in DC will premiere at SXSW next month, but you can check out the trailer right now. Radical.

We did a Bad Brains show in Phoenix earlier this year for PHX AM, and it still looks like this video from 1982. We are banned from having events at that venue ever again. Awesome. Check out photos from that show on Vans Flickr.
