FYF Fest: Earl Sweatshirt

Leave it to Earl Sweatshirt to pull a fast one on us and start off his FYF set on Sunday with Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing,” inciting giggles and cheers from the audience. Although the young rap star just announced his break from non-stop touring since the release of his album Doris, he gave his all for his last performance at FYF and managed to put some smiles on the crowd after the day drama of long lines and way-too-hot temperatures.

FYF Fest: One Day, One Artist
After playing our House of Vans Boston and making an appearance at SXSW House of Vans with Tyler, The Creator, it was a no-brainer to place Earl Sweatshirt on the bill for FYF this weekend. The 20-year-old LA native, who already has his own label and is a prominent member of Odd Future, sounds way beyond his years, delivering tracks with a finesse that’s difficult to fabricate. In an age where young artists are starting to be taken more seriously, we’re glad Earl has stepped up to the plate and into the spotlight. But he still has time to be hilarious, especially on Instagram. Check out a couple snippets of possible new tracks for his upcoming album and watch him play FYF this Sunday.

Meet the Superfans at the Barriers at Governors Ball
Fandom in the music world has always been really fascinating to me. My friends and I often say that we are fans of fans: we enjoy observing maniacal devotees who are driven to hysteria thanks to their favorite musicians. Once a friend and I went to a Justin Bieber concert—less for his suave dance moves and more to witness the hoards of screaming and crying preteen girls and their mothers. Passionate fandom is a part of modern culture, and we wanted to experience it in all its perspirational glory en masse and firsthand.

Noisey did a great job of making the superfans the focal point of NYC’s Governor’s Ball this year. We’ve all been fans of something, especially in the music world. If you’re a self-proclaimed “superfan,” reblog with the band or artist you’d do anything to meet!

Tyler the Creator // House of Vans

Since 2009, Tyler the Creator has been stirring up controversy, but all the talk has only built up more of a fanbase and curiousity about his music. His tracks almost hypnotize listeners as his raps leave no subject to the imagination. Tyler and crew stopped by House of Vans and the Vans lounge this week at SXSW.
