If you give a girl a guitar, she may just write some songs and make some music. Hop Along vocalist Frances Quinlan has a voice that’s somewhere between coffee shop delicate and basement punk raw. There’s an indie-folk element to the music, and we just can’t. stop. listening. No seriously.
We’re stealing these Canadian hardcore punks to set light to the House of Vans this summer. If you’ve ever needed a reason to mow your way through a pit, come hang with Fucked Up for the first night of insanity at this summer’s Vans x FYF House Parties.
It’s that time of year again! We’re back at it at the House of Vans with the third annual Vans x FYFHouse Parties. The first show of the summer kicks off Thursday, June 27th with Fucked Up, Title Fight, and Hop Along, with more rad parties to follow.
All shows are all-ages and free with RSVP, but get there early to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the fun. RSVP for the first show opens up June 11th. Stay tuned to vans.com/houseparties for the full schedule and RSVP info!
Sometimes we need to be reminded what a straight up punk rock house party feels like. It should be so down and dirty that you wake up scraping the grime from your skin, legs all bruised up, and a shoe gone missing.
This week’s Vans House Party is going to be just that, with old school punk bands H2O and 7Seconds taking to the stage alongside Brooklyn’s own Tournament.
Get your party on at the House of Vans this Thursday, July 12th! All ages and free with RSVP.
You had me at New York. The full summer schedule for the Vans X FYFHouse Parties is here, in all its full-fledged glory. Feel free to start booking your buses and trains and planes and things. Maybe save me a seat while you’re at it?
All shows are all-ages, free with RSVP, and jam-packed with a whole lot of awesome. You know we wouldn’t leave you hanging.
Also, have you dudes taken a look at the revamped House Parties site? There’s some pretty fantastic photo recaps from the first show of the summer with The Rapture and Tanlines, plus JDH & Dave P on the turntables.
If you don’t know Tanlines, immediately proceed to whatever doodad you download stuff from & get their album “Mixed Emotions.” It just came out a couple of months ago following one hell of a debut EP, “Settings” in 2010. It takes a lot for just two guys to pull off a great show and fill up a stage, but they do. The crowd at House of Vans was definitely feeling them. The bass line on the track “Brothers” sounds huge when it’s played live. You could feel it in the floor. I think the crowd favorite was probably “Real Life.” Are you seeing this guy’s drum kit? It’s not often anybody can mix that kind of sound into a syth-pop dance beat. I vote yes.
Last night marked the the first Vans House Party of the summer with our friends at FYF. Come on. The Rapture? There were 1,000 people dancing, and sweating and losing their minds. Not kidding. 1,000 people. We counted. I thought the place was going to explode when they came on with “In the Grace of Your Love.” It was hands down one of the best parties we’ve had at House of Vans yet. I want to hop into the Delorean with Marty McFly and go back to last night for another round and sing “House of Jealous Lovers” like it’s my damn job. That’s a party.
As far as most of America is concerned, Memorial Day marks the real launch of summer: burgers on the grill, a whole lot of sunscreen, and the return of the Vans X FYF House Parties in Brooklyn. Chyeah. You didn’t think we were going to leave you hanging this year, did you?
The first installment of the summer series will kick off on Wednesday, June 20th with performances from The Rapture and Tanlines, as well as a set from Dave P. Party numba 2 comes a few weeks later with H2O, 7 Seconds, and special guests on July 12th.
More parties are coming throughout the summer on July 26th, August 2nd, August 16th, and August 29th, with bands to be announced.
All shows are all ages and free with RSVP. The first show will open up for RSVP on June 11th at vans.com/houseparties.
Pizza, metal, and skateboarding with Nate from Converge. Check out episode 7 from the Vans House Parties series, featuring live performances from Krallice, Touche Amore, and Converge at House of Vans in Brooklyn.
Sad day. Summer’s just about come to an end and with it comes the last of our House Parties at House of Vans. We’re closing out the summer series tomorrow night, August 24th with a few bands you guys may know.
Converge made their mark with the record Jane Doe in 2001 and, even more recently, 2009’s Axe To Fall. The band have perfected their own brand of atmospheric metal-hardcore and recently re-signed with Epitaph Records. After this show, the guys are starting work on their next album, writing new songs and all that good stuff. Check the video for “Axe to Fall” below.
Los Angeles-based Touche Amore have also been added to the lineup. They released their record Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me this past June and we’ve got a little clip from one of those tracks just below. And for all you LA folks, the band will be playing FYF Fest over Labor Day weekend. Check the rest of the bands, info, etc. at FYFFest.com.
And last but not least, we’ve got Krallice rounding out the show. These dudes are straight outta New York and they’re ready to tear House of Vans apart. Not to mention, they’ve got a ton of music for you to stream under the info section on their Facebook page, including their 2008 self-titled record and former music projects of the current band members.
Insanely awesome lineup at House of Vans? Check. Photos from the crazy talented Tod Seelie? Check. All action-packed into a nifty little Flickr sideshow? Check!
We’re broadcastin’ live from the House of Vans tonight (y’know, in a good 15ish hours or so) and you best make sure to tune in. We’ve got an earlier start time this week, so get yourselves to your computers in time. The webcast is kicking off at 7pm EST/4pm PST and the lineup is pretty killer. Tune in for the webcast and more info at vans.com/houseparties.
Canadian-based Tokyo Police Club are headlining the gig before a ten-day run in the studio starting next week. The band is putting together a collection of cover songs from the 2001-2010 decade. Read up on all the details here. And if you’re into watching all kinds of cute pups running about the neighborhood, check out TPC’s video for “Wait Up (Boots of Danger)” below!
Fresh off a full summer on Warped Tour, rock-punk veterans Against Me! will also be joining the lineup. These guys are keeping themselves more than busy amidst a handful of dates opening up for Blink 182 and a month-long run in Europe come November. Travelin’ pioneers, much? I’m jealous. Check all those dates here.
Throwin’ in a touch of urban bounce music on the show is N’awlins’ own Big Freedia. After almost 15 years in the business, she’s still going strong, performing with familiar names like Ninjasonik and Japanther. Last year brought her release of Big Freedia Hitz Vol. 1 and word is that record number three is in the works.
The show’s openers include Brooklyn locals Japanther and Team Robespierre. Japanther’s newest release, Rock ‘n’ Roll Ice Cream is a rock opera of sorts with a touch of that California surf vibe. And all you really need to know about Team Robespierre is that the band’s interests include “fun, parties, dancing, and life.” Dance party all up in here!
Webcast details are comin’ up soon. Check vans.com/houseparties for more info or to RSVP for the show.
While you’re waiting on that, Keith Morris from OFF! gives us the lowdown on rad places to see and eat in Brooklyn. Featuring live clips from House Party #2 with OFF!, Lemuria, and Superchunk last month.
