The House of Vans recently took a little side trip to Calgary as part of the Sled Island music festival, with our friends OFF! manning the stage. Calgary artist Josh Rucks also designed a series of free limited-edition Vans T-shirts to get everyone laced up before OFF! took over the house.

That night was the eve of the Calgary floods, which did extensive damage across Alberta, affecting many communities and forcing thousands of families out of their homes. Having witnessed the onset of the flood, our thoughts are with our friends and family out in Calgary. In true spirit of the night, there’s nothing more punk than helping each other out, so we encourage everyone to assist others as best they can. Donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross.

OFF! are at it again with a west coast tour kicking off this Thursday. If you’re in need of some straight up punk rock, ditch the TV for a night and snatch up some tickets for a show or two.

Also, if you’re in the LA area, Friday’s show at the Henry Fonda is being recorded for Last Call With Carson Daly. Get on it.

And we’ll have fun, fun, fun till daddy takes the T-Bird awayyyy. Or, y’know, just for one weekend in Austin this November. That works too.
The line-up for the Fun Fun Fun Fest was announced this week, and let’s just say it’s pretty stellar. You see that list with the little skull hanging out next to it? Yep, that’s what I’ve got my eye on. Turbonegro, X, Against Me!, OFF!, Valient Thorr? Sold.
We’re all about the music lineup, but make time for all of the art, food, and fashion while you’re there as well. Keep an eye on funfunfunfest.com for all the latest info.

Another fresh new music video to sink your teeth into: OFF! just released a little spitfire of a video for the song “Cracked”. I’m sure you’ve seen those guys and gals paid to hold signs on the street, telling us to buy sandwiches and cell phones and whatnot. Sometimes they’re dressed up as monkeys or Lady Liberty, as if embarrassing outfits really drive up business factors. Turns out the key to awesome sign spinning isn’t costumes, it’s a lil’ bit of OFF! on the cassette deck.

If you want to up your game on the sign spinning business, the band just released a smashing little record last month. You can pick it up now on iTunes, as well as on vinyl or CD.

"Can’t a guy be angry and just play fast and pissed off music?" Yes, Keith Morris, yes you can. While he may be best known for his years upon years tearing apart the punk scene in Black Flag and Circle Jerks, we took a trip up to Hollywood’s legendary Whisky A Go Go for the record release show from his current punk rock supergroup, OFF!. Needless to say, I don’t think The Whisky knew just what it was in for when Keith came and taped down a giant three-page set list to the stage.

"Uncle Keith" paused throughout the night for storytime with the audience, reliving tales of drinking in a parking lot up the street and setting dumpsters on fire. It was a punk rock history lesson with an insanely animated soundtrack to accompany it.

FIDLAR opened the sold-out show with an incredible set of their own. Just give some punk rock a kick of dancing, and this band is what you’ve got. They’ll be continuing along the California coast for more shows this week, and we send them off with high recommendations and a tip o’ the hat.

My oh my, do you have your hands full, Europe. Sacramento hardcore-punks Trash Talk are leaving behind California’s June gloom for a summer Eurotrip next month. Did we mention they’re touring with OFF!? Yep.
This is probably the tour your mother should’ve warned you about, which is really all the more reason to go. In fact, why don’t you bring along mother dearest? Family bonding for the modern age.

Is it May 8th yet? No? I’m just going to crawl back under the covers and you can wake me up next Tuesday with the gritty punk rock goodness that is OFF!. Their new, self-titled record hits stores on the 8th, pummeling through 16 songs in 16 minutes. Who needs all those three minute radio singles anyway? Nah, man. OFF! know how to get things done in a third of the time.
It wouldn’t be a proper album release without some shows to rage through all those brand new tracks. Some shows are almost sold out, so check out the dates above and get those tickets in advance!

Hey California,

As mentioned in the previous post, the weather has been a little gloomy with cloudy skies and random spring showers. But summer is right around the corner, and I guarantee you that all its incessant sun and heat will make you look back on these days fondly.  Beach time and summer music festival will eventually be calling out your name, so you gotta get prepared.

Here’s a handy step by step photo guide on how to stay cool this summer, demonstrated by FIDLAR at a recent show in heat stricken Indio, CA.

They’ll be playing at the record release show for OFF!  @ The Whiskey on the 8th of May before traveling along the coast for a short Cali tour:

May 08 The Whisky w/ OFF! (Record Release Show) @Los Angeles, CA
May 11 Slim’s w/ OFF! @San Francisco, CA
May 12 Pioneer w/ Meat Market @Santa Crus, CA
May 15 Che Cafe w/ OFF! @San Diego, CA

Get back to the roots of west coast skate culture with OFF!'s first single from their upcoming self-titled album, due out May 8th. The punk rock supergroup is kickin' it old school some massive surf and skate tumbles in their new video “Wiped Out”. Props to the kids making out in the midst of the pit. Ah, young punk love at its finest.

Don’t forget to catch the dudes at their record release parties in May.

Last Saturday, the boys and girls of Burger Records presented the first annual “Burgerama” in Santa Ana’s The Observatory, with a line-up that would make any suburban garage weep destructive tears of joy. With the Fi turned down extra Lo and waffle soles pounding mosh-pits and faces alike, Fidlar and OFF! laced up their Vans kicks and joined fellow bands Wavves, Strange Boys, and Ty Segall (to name a few) for one night of impulsive stage diving and crown surfing fun. If it was past your bedtime and you couldn’t make it that night, check out this recap.
