FYF Fest: Man Man

One of the most visually entertaining performances of Saturday’s lineup was definitely Man Man. The members are seasoned pros in the art of costume-change, multi-instrumental performing, and getting the crowd up and moving. Instruments like the saxophone, trumpet, and xylophone were all big players in the unique sounds of Man Man’s set and frontman Ryan Kattner is never afraid to poke fun at himself, strutting around in fur coats and faking a fall in front of the stage, making the band even more like-able.

FYF Fest: Angel Olsen

Being the first act of a two-day festival may be daunting to some, but Angel Olsen entered the stage calm, cool, and collected. Her voice relaxed the sunburned concert-goers who were finding refuge from the sun in the dark Arena and the beautiful starry-night backdrop and disco balls created an interesting addition to her bittersweet-sounding tracks like “Hi-Five” and “Drunk and With Dreams.” She even gave the audience a little advice when feeling frustrated: just scream when you’re angry. While that definitely works, listening to Angel made us all a little less stressed and a lot happier yesterday at FYF.

Upcoming Motörhead Appearances

Seems like we’re going to be seeing Lemmy all over our TVs pretty soon!

The new Motörhead documentary aptly titled Lemmy will air on VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia on February 11th at 11:30pm. The film is all about Lemmy Kilmister himself- his life and candid stories directly from him. It also includes interviews with Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Joan Jett, Dave Grohl, Slash and more. All the details can be found at LemmyMovie.com and be sure to catch it on Feb 11th!

You can also catch Motörhead performing tonight on Conan O’Brien on TBS as well as NBC’s Jimmy Fallon next week on March 2nd. Tune in.

Late Night Metal: Slayer

It’s not too often you get real metal on television, but I guess Jimmy Kimmel is trying to regain his street cred. I didn’t even know his show was still on. Do people still think it’s funny? I digress…

Behold! Slayer melts faces on last night’s episode with “Hate Worldwide” and “World Painted Blood.” This is also the band’s first appearance since Tom’s back surgery. I think he’s doing just fine!

Black Tide Accounce New Album

Black Tide have packed up their bags and gear and began their 8-10 week stay in New York to record a new album. With producer GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Gallows) and Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God), I think you can expect a most excellent sounding release in late 2010. According to bassist Zakk, they have an astounding 37 or 38 songs they are ready to record. Maybe we can hope for a double disc?

Also while in NY, the guys are taking this Sunday night to perform for you on the radio show “Anything, Anything.” The acoustic performance and interview will stream online at 9pm EST.

Check out Zakk’s farewell message before heading off to the city:

The Damned Things Debut

Do you recall the seemingly mismatched collab dubbed The Damned Things? Let’s refresh your memory!

A few months ago, before the Fall Out Boy hiatus even, we were introduced to The Damn Things- a project featuring members of Fall Out Boy, Every Time I Die and Anthrax. I know, I know. We all were confused, but word on the street says this band is totally legit…despite the fact that we haven’t heard anything from them. They could be the only band to grace the cover of Rock Sound without having a single track online. I digress…

The big news is The Damned Things have scheduled their first show!

The Damned Things w/ Static Summer
June 1st
The Knitting Factory
Brooklyn, NY

Tickets for this show are bound to go fast. And who knows. We may not even hear anything from them until this performance, so if you go, you could get the first taste. Be sure to let us know if you are going. We need to get the skinny on this show!

If you aren’t in the country, they are doing a few string of shows across Europe afterward:

Jun 4 @ Rock Am RING - Nurburgring (Tickets)
Jun 5 @ Rock Im PARK - Nuremberg (Tickets)
Jun 6 @ VK - Brussels (Tickets)
Jun 8 @ Melkweg - Amsterdam (Tickets)
Jun 10 @ Heaven - London (Tickets)
Jun 12 @ Copenhell - Copenhagen (Tickets)
Jun 13 @ Download Festival - Donnington (Tickets)
